The color depth describes the number of bits per channel. Select the color depth as the final step before the preview scan. Open the dialog's Expert section by clicking on the mortarboard. In the Expert section of the dialog in Ai Studio, you can also edit the profiles or create your own profiles. If you film type is not listed, select a similar film type or use the standard profile: When using our HDR and HDRi raw data formats, this information is saved for later processing. In the Negafix dialog you can choose a film from a wide selection of manufacturers and different film typed with different ISO values. If you have selected the "Negative" setting to scan your negatives, the Negafix dialog will have opened simultaneously as an additional tool. The selection automatically loads a special color profile which prevents the usual blueness that Kodachrome images would otherwise acquire when scanned without this special feature. Select "Kodachrome" for the special slide film from Kodak - often identified by the "card frame". "Positive" is the setting used for the normal positive slides.

On some film scanners, the film holder type can be selected in the software instead. On a pure film scanner, it is only possible to scan transparent material and the Reflective mode is not available. Kodachrome and Negatives are found by clicking on the "Positive" icon.) For transparency scans on a flatbed scanner, it is important to remove the cover of the transparency unit. (Transparency is found by clicking on the "Reflective" icon and selecting from the drop down menu. This type of plugin is not a silver bullet when it comes to dust removal. As you’ll also see if you allow the software unrestrained power you’ll lose detail that you might otherwise want. You will be left with imperfections, and the video view shows this, that you will have to deal with. Then, if your scanner supports it, use Digital ICE as it delivers a better result and it’s very much faster. The sample image you see in the video is just filthy. We’ve tried SRD-X from within the Silverfast scanning application and it definitely improves things. Here’s how it works thanks to a German original tutorial helpfully dubbed into English. The regular price is due to be 99 Euros / Dollars but it’s on offer now for 29. If you have any images you’ve captured from slides or negatives (35mm / MF/ Large format colour or mono) you can now access Silverfast dust and scratch removal by investing in a Photoshop plug-in called SRD-X. Exactly as it should be as I think we paid over £600 for the software, anyway I digress. Alongside their support for Digital ICE (which is hardware based) they’ve developed a software only alternative which is baked into their scanning program. We rely heavily on a program called Silverfast from a German company called LaserSoft Imaging for our slide scanning service. And we don’t scan all the slides out there that need scanning.
It doesn’t work on black & white material, and the results with Kodachromes can be variable. It’s done using dedicated hardware and infrared light. When we scan medium format or 35mm slides & negatives we use a feature in Nikon & Epson scanners called Digital ICE, this automatically handles scratches and dust removal inevitably found on old material.
